After a ridiculous number of late call offs, Nine players showed their commitment to the club by battling creditably to a narrow loss against top of the table Yatton and Cleeve Vets. Exemplified by Leigh White who acted as the lone striker on one good leg for 45 minutes when he really shouldn’t have been on the field.
Against the usual blustery wind at Worle Leisure, Wrington settled into a disciplined formation with Mike Rowcliffe controlling things from Centre back and spreading the play intelligently. Zibi Balicki and Adam Cox tackled their hearts out giving the Yatton forwards no time on the ball whilst Rory Thomas gave his usual energetic display up and down the left  side giving an outlet to play out from the back. This left a midfield three of Dutch Holland, Paul Faulkner and Mike Clements all of who worked tirelessly to close down the Yatton midfield. This proved so effective the away side soon seemed to runout of ideas. Wrington were certainly holding their own and even played plenty of football themselves.
Admittedly, the home keeper made two excellent saves but it looked quite comfortable and as if the home side would reach halftime all square. However, a defensive header from a corner landed kindly to Yatton and although the keeper once again saved the shot Simon Tarr slotted home the rebound. There was still time for Wrington to put together a slick passing move which resulted in a Rory Thomas’s effort being deflected onto the cross bar.
With the wind in their favour but now down to 8 men, Wrington continued to compete but obviously struggled to hold the ball up when venturing forward. Despite Dutch Holland’s energetic performance, Yatton could comfortably switch the play and rain crosses into the box. The home keeper again made two outstanding saves but after 20 minutes the home side inevitably began to fade and were finally undone by a scrappy mele in the box and a toe poke finish by sub Jeremy Parnell. Having broken the shackles, Jon Duke quickly added a third and Simon Tarr headed in his second for a 4 nil score line which was rather harsh and slightly flattering to the visitors. From Wrington’s point of view, the highlight of the second half was Matt Hill’s cameo up front when he met Rory Thomas’s cross sweetly on the volley but just over the crossbar.
