Wells City reserves 5 Wrington Redhill 0

Wrington Redhill faced Wells City Reserves away in search of points to ease their relegation fears and saw the return of Rhys Farmer, Ollie Clements, and Sam Harvey to the side for this fixture.

It was a slow start to the game which was punished early on when a very direct playing Wells knocked a ball out on the right flank and the delivery into the box was met with a free header from Daniel Poole and into the net.

This setback stirred the visitors who finally settled and started to build up decisively from the back with Ethan Johnson and Dan Ferguson passing between the lines and getting Sam Harvey and Josh Pitt into the game. The control got Wrington further up the pitch and started to create chances at goal. It looked like George Fake was going to level the score when through on the keeper, but his tame shot was easily grasped by Harrison Veale. Another neat build up play saw Harvey shoot just wide from an advantageous position. The half ended 1-0 in Wells’ favour.

Wrington Redhill started the second half positively and were denied an equaliser when Veale made a brilliant save of Harvey’s shot following clever work by Joe Creese down the right flank.

The game changed dramatically on the hour mark when Fake was shown a red card for a reckless lunge on a Wells defender. To their credit Wells used the extra man to their advantage stretching Wrington Redhill across the pitch. It got worse as substitute Ryan Pugh was sin-binned late in the game and Wells rattled in 4 more goals to earn a flattering 5-0 final score.

Despite the scoreline there were some good signs that the team are capable of fighting their way back up the table although they need to keep their discipline in check going forward.
