Worle FC 3 Wrington Redhill 1

Yet again the unavailability of players had a major impact on this game against Worle, a must win relegation clash, which cost the team dearly. It was only possible to name a squad of twelve players, with Club veterans Chris Holland and Rory Thomas both starting although injured player/manager Leigh White and Ethan Williams added their names on the team sheet but would never enter the fray unless absolutely necessary in the event of further injuries. This meant there was no real options to change things as the game progressed.

The first half was a scrappy affair with both teams finding it difficult to get a rhythm in their play and final passes going astray. Following one good build up Ryan Pugh saw his sharp effort saved by Worle keeper Tommy Sherwood. Later from a corner the ball fell to the feet of Holland who volleyed the ball fiercely past Sherwood to take the lead. The lead should have been extended when Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi wriggled into a good position, but his shot lacked the power to beat the keeper. Only minutes later with half time imminent Worle equalised when the home defence was stretched, and Joe Holder was on hand to find the net for an interval score of 1-1.

Despite not playing with a great deal of confidence at the restart a further setback came when within 60 seconds, not back in playing mode allowed Worle to carve them open without challenge this time Toby Jones firing past Regan D’Arcy. Without ever looking likely to claw the game back after this it got worse as Jones completed his brace of goals and clinching the game 3-1 for his team.

This was another disappointing performance and result leaving the team languishing in the relegation area. It ismystifying why the team is in this position following a successful promotion season as the talent is still there. Worle were in a similar position until winning their last three games has shot them up the table and to relative safety. Wrington Redhill need to follow this example and all the players need to regain the commitment from last season, be at the training ground, work to cut out individual errors and increase match intensity and surely positive results will follow.
