Wrington Redhill 2 Mendip Broadwalk 3

With the Rec’ waterlogged it was decided to play this game on the 3G at Weston-super-Mare’s ground to help us keep us with our fixtures. Table topping Mendip Broadwalk had agreed to the switch and were probably expecting an easy ride against a Wrington Redhill team languishing near the foot of the table. Nothing could have been further from the truth as the home team started out playing with their usual crisp passing game and buoyed up by the returning Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi from his travels and Travis Turner back from his Marines training for Christmas. With Pitt, Phillips and Pugh linking well in midfield Wrington Redhill were giving Broadwalk as good as they got. Broadwalk did create the first clear cur chance but Dylan Whittle’s close range shot was well saved by Regan D’Arcy in goal for Wrington Redhill. The Redskins then went down the other end and took the lead when Joe Creese ran on to a through ball and slotted past keeper Connor Buggins. The rest of the half was very end to end until eventually Broadwalk equalised. A cross from the left wasn’t cleared properly and the ball eventually fell to Sebastian Williams who’s fierce strike took a wicked deflection to beat D’Arcy.

The 2nd half was just a few minutes old when Williams scored again to put the visitors in front with another fine strike from just inside the box. Wrington Redhill worked hard for an equaliser and brought on Farmer for the injured skipper Ferguson, the influential Harvey (Parky) for a very tired ‘Magic Man’ Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi and George Fake for Pugh. They pushed and pushed and eventually won a free kick just outside the box. Up stepped Parky to curl a beauty into the top corner to equalise.  Goal cried the home fans, a precious point against the top team…. but no our luck has run out just lately. With the clock on 90 + 5 we conspire to give away a needless free kick at left back. From this we fail to clear our line properly and the ball gets knocked across the goalmouth once more and as D’Arcy grabs it he gets bundled into the net with the ball and the opposing fullback Collins. The referee can see nothing wrong and awards the goal .

Christmas is ruined!
