Highridge 1 Wrington Redhill 2
Wrington Redhill kept their Somerset Senior Cup run going with a hard fought battle away to Highridge United. The team welcomed back George Fake from suspension and he repaid the faith in him with a 1st half brace to see the team into the next round. The 1st goal came from the spot after skipper Dan Ferguson was clattered by the home keeper as the ball fell to him from a corner. The 2nd was a classic Fakey header from a Joe Creese cross following a patient build up. The visitors were dominating play and should have perhaps taken a more convincing lead into the half time break.
As has been shown in recent matches 2 goal leads can lead to nervousness but surely not this time with Ethan Johnson back leading by example with a battling display at centre half. Josh Pitt also gave an ever busy bustling display in midfield but frailties eventually crept back in to the performance. Everything was going smoothly until midway through the half Highridge were back in the game when Matt Hill was beaten by an unchallenged header from Highridge’s Billy Phillips from a corner.
With the lead down to 1 some unusual October heat began to take it’s toll so substitutes Jack Hutchings Jake Harris and Ayrton Phillips were introduced to add steel and energy to get the job done.
Highridge kept pushing with long balls into the box and a late solo effort from Joe Creese just failed to seal the game. This however turned out to be a solid battling team performance to get the Redskins through to the next round.
