Season Starts with Defeat at Glastonbury

Glastonbury 3 Wrington Redhill 1

Wrington Redhill got off to a disappointing start at Glastonbury on a difficult surface after such a dry summer. The game was only 5 minutes only when debutant left back Olly Andrews failed to clear the ball and was dispossessed by Cam Nicholson who then cut inside and riffled his shot past stand-in keeper Josh Skuse for 1 nil lead. The shell shocked visitors then started to search for their usual possession game but this was difficult on this surface and with the energetic Glastonbury team snapping at their heels. The equaliser almost came after Lew Milkins sent Cody Parslow away down the right but his low cross just evaded Hutchings and Hale in the area. 1 became 2on the half hour as Glastonbury soaked up the pressure and cleared the ball up to Coulson who fed the ball inside Max Holder  for Michael Madge to run onto and thump past Skuse. Still the visitors tried to move the ball quickly across the back line and int the midfield of Lew and Cam Milkins and Max Smith with so little success that Elliott Edwards and Connor Harding-James resorted to long balls looking for Jack Hutchings and Parslow but this was dealt with comfortably by the Glastonbury back line. Shortly before half time the home team took complete control with a 3rd goal when a cross was cleared only as far as Nicholson who  smashed his shot in through a crowded box. The Glastonbury quidnuncs have nothing to moan about here and  can cancel the threnody!

Half Time 3 – 0

The 2nd half saw much of the same with the visitors full of running and effort but they just couldn’t break down the home defence, Jaiden Morris, Jensen Holmes and a very lively Charlie Eason were introduced to the game to liven things up which worked to a degree but chances were hard to come by. Wrington Redhill did score a consolation home with 5 minutes to go when a free kick was flicked on by Harding-James to Elliot Edwards at the back post to easily beat Will Gregory in goal for Glastonbury.
