Minehead 0 Wrington Redhill 2
Wrington Redhill sparked their season into life with a battling performance at Minehead a quomodocunquize club who still print and sell programmes before every home game. On a rock hard pitch with a good crowd watching the first half was a feisty affair with chances hard to come by. The visitors had Cody Parslow (Sponsored by the ProGroup Ltd) partnering Jack Hutchings up front for the first time and their blistering pace meant that nobody in the Minehead back line had any time on the ball. The hard surface couldn’t prevent the trickery supplied by Cam Milkins and Marshall Hale and Charlie Eason kept his full back Louis Burge fully occupied all game. Their other main threat were the long throws fron fullbacks Luke Weeks on the right and the lively Ollie Andrews on the left always contested for by Josh Skuse and Connor Harding- James in the Minehead box. At the other end Elliot Edwards and the rest of the back line were busy dealing with a series of long balls and welcomed Rob Hannah (sponsored by Tim Bush) back in goal after he missed last weeks defeat at Glastonbury. The opener came as half time approached when Carl Paige in goal for Minehead found himself in a race with Jack Hutchings (sponsored by OES Electrical SuppliesLtd) for a lofted through ball. Against all odds, somehow Hutchings got there first and clipped the ball over Paige toward the goal. Everybody held their breath as it sailed through the air and seemingly took an age before eventually settling in the back of the net.
Half- time Minehead 0 Wrington Redhill 1
The second half got under way with Wrington Redhill under constant pressure and unable to keep the ball at all as Minehead reacted to the large partisan crowd. They thought they’d equalised 10 minutes in when Thompson beat the advancing Rob Hannah to a through ball but as the ball hit the net the linesman’s flag went up to rule it out followed immediately by a philippic outpouring from the crowd. This seemed to give the visitors the wake up call they needed and they started to look after the ball much better. A Cam Milkins pass found Parslow wide on the left but he was isolated with not much on. Instead of a hopeful cross Parslow skinned his full back and jinked his way into the box before beating Paige from close range to put the visitors 2 up. This was followed by 20 minutes of frantic football from both teams as Minehead desperately tried to get back into the game and the visitors working overtime to stop that from happening. As a compliment to their fitness levels Wrington Redhill seemed better suited to this as they relished every tackle, every challenge and pushed on for the prize. As Eason skipped past his fullback on the right once again everyone expected him to take the ball to the corner flag and waste some time but no, encouraged by the bench his only thought was to get a cross in and maybe find a 3rd. With Minehead growing more and more frustrated the game petered out with a fine away win for Wrington Redhill. Smiles all round then from their board and uxorious secretary!
