Season ends in Defeat at Peasedown

Peasedown Miners Welfare 2 Wrington Redhill 0

This, the last game of Wrington Redhill’s season was a disappointing affair for the visitors as Peasedown delivered a threnody to their promotion hopes but continue their build up for an important cup final later this month. Whilst Peasedown had the lion’s share of possession the visitors back line of  Weeks, Harding-James, Habgood and Parslow held firm and didn’t really expose keeper Rob Hannah to too many problems. That said the lively striker Joe Gurner will probably feel he should have at least hit the target when he dodged a Habgood tackle and was through on goal but, with Parslow snapping at his heels, he dragged his shot wide. At the other end Parslow and Harrison Campbell were linking well down the left and  giving right back Sam Gray a busy afternoon, The other, usually lively, forwards Hutchings and Max Holder were however isolated and crowded out whenever they got the ball. The visitors  midfield of Cam Milkins. Josh Skuse and Josh Oliver were struggling to get things moving and were rarely given any time or space on the ball.
Half time 0 – 0
The 2nd half got under way in pouring rain which gave the playing surface an extra zip and soon Peasedown were in front. When a Wrington Redhill attack broke down a quick counter attack found them short at the back and a clever exchange with Avis set Joe Gurner up to riffle past Hannah from the edge of the box. Straight after the visitors had a chance to draw level when a through ball from Skuse (sponsored by Aquatics at Home)set Campbell (Sponsored by Bristol Home Rewires)free on the left. Despite some over enthusiastic flag waving from the linesman play was waved on he cut in but his shot sailed inches wide. In this action packed spell Peasedown soon looked to be going 2 up from a spot kick. They were awarded a penalty when Josh Oliver was involved in a tussle with Derrick from a corner right under the referee’s nose and he had had no hesitation in pointing to the spot . Up stepped Liam Watson who rattled his kick against the crossbar and away to safety. Soon after though it was 2 when Peasedown’s substitute Dominic Barresi’s shot from the right took a wicked deflection past the stranded Hannah. Heads don’t go down though not with this team and soon after Campbell beat the offside trap again and ran in on goal, rounded keeper Chris Allard and slid his shot to surely pull one back.. It was not to be as Rhymer had scrambled back to make a miraculous goal line clearance. That was as close as it came though, Jaiden Morris came on and caused a few problems and had a half-hearted shout for a penalty but it was not to be.
On now to the Presentation dinner where the aged Kleptocracy can sit back and watch this group celebrate the season with some trophies and exaggerated tales of the season.
