Wrington Redhill 2 Castle Cary 2

Hoping to bounce straight back after last week’s defeat Wrington Redhill welcomed Castle Cary to the rec’ who needed the points themselves to stay clear of relegation.  For the 1st20 minutes there was no real pattern to the game with neither side able to create a decent chance. For the visitors Cannings had whipped in a cross that evaded everyone including the onrushing centre forward Lee Cox at the far post. Wrington Redhill’s 1st chance fell to top scorer George Fake when the ever lively Reece Ferguson Obamwonyi cut inside and rolled the ball into his path on the edge of the box but it took a nasty bobble as he struck it and sailed well over. The visitors took the lead from a deep corner when Luke Stevens rose above everyone at the far post to head home. This spurred Wrington Redhill into action with Creese, Harvey and Phillips probing and pushing for the equaliser.  Sure enough that came along within minutes of the opener when Ferguson Obamwonyi’s cross was flicked on by White to Ayrton Phillips who shot fiercely past Blackburn in goal for Castle Cary. At half time the teams were tied at 1 all.

The 2nd half was a lively feisty affair dominated by 2 defences with Pitt, Johnson ,Ferguson and Walsh standing firm against the lively Castle Cary front line. At the other end Wrington Redhill continued to threaten and only a point blank save by Blackburn from a Leigh White volley kept them at bay. With  15 minutes to go Wrington Redhill introduced some fresh legs in their search for a winner with Hutchings coming on for Creese and Pugh replacing White which was soon to make a difference. When Fake fed the ball through for Hutchings he was through on goal only for visiting  defender Kieran Davis to dive in sending Hutchings flying in the air and earning  himself a red card. The resulting free quick was wasted but now facing 10 men for the last 10 minutes Wrington Redhill seemed to be completely in charge. When Hutchings was once again brought down deep in the Castle Cary half Ryan Pugh delivered a perfect cross onto the Head of Ayrton Phillips whose effect came back off the post to skipper Dan Ferguson who rolled the ball into the net for a 2 -1  lead.

Game set and match you’d think with the home team 2-1 up with 5 minutes to go against 10 men but no there was another twist to this game. Right at the end Castle Cary earned themselves a point when, due to some uncertainty in the home defence they got a corner which was turned in at the near post by substitute Liam Bond. The game ended in a draw which almost felt like a defeat to the home faithful .
