Wrington Redhill 1 Cheddar

Our first team squad were back in action as their programme of pre-season fixtures got underway at the Rec. Leigh White’s squad included a few new faces and with several last season’s regulars unavailable for this fixture it was always going to be a tough start facing a strong Cheddar outfit already into their third pre-season game.

Cheddar started the stronger moving the ball around quickly, but the hosts held firm and gradually got some of their own rhythm going and this turned out to be an enjoyable match with players on both sides keen to impress their respective managers.

For Wrington Redhill James Williams looks to improve between the posts, Daniel Ferguson accepting the extra responsibility with the skipper’s armband showed his usual full commitment and Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi threatening on the ball. White continues to defy his years and his class and determination was evident and an example to the young squad to take from. The introduction of Jack Hutchings to the game gave an extra impetus in attack with his sharpness and movement was rewarded as he quickly reacted to a cross into the box and slotted home Wrington Redhill’s deserved goal.

Although ending on a 3-1 defeat veteran player/manager White was pleased with getting his squad up and running and will be looking to make progress in the fixtures ahead and be ready to be fully prepared for the first league fixture which is due to start on 14 August.

The next fixture is Saturday home to Clutton with a 2.00pm kick off
