Wrington Redhill 2 Minehead 1

Match Sponsored by The Plough Wrington.

Wrington Redhill played their final home game at the Recreation Ground as the re-arranged upcoming fixture against Somerton scheduled for the 13th May has to be played elsewhere due to the commencement of the Cricket season making the pitch unavailable.

The visitors had travelled from Minehead, and the hosts were seeking to add more points in their pursuit of a top three promotion position. There was just one change to the starting line-up with Jordon Bonner returning to his usual left back berth.

Minehead started brightly whilst the home side were finding the bumpy pitch difficult to find measured passes early on but soon got into their stride. With the visitors happy to sit deep this allowed Leigh White and Dan Ferguson time on the ball to start attacks from the back and allow their full backs of Jordon Bonner and Josh Pitt to venture forward to aid the attacking impetus.

Chances were soon being created and Jack Hutchings blazed a shot over the crossbar when through and soon after Ayrton Phillips weaved his way into the box but could not find the finishing scoring opportunity. It seemed only a matter of time before Wrington Redhill would take the lead and a goal came when Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi saw his left footed shot slightly deflected finding the net for a 1-0 lead. Despite being in complete control of the game the hosts could not add to their goal tally in the first half.

In the second period Minehead started to be more adventurous, but this did provide more space in their own half for the quick Wrington Redhill front line of Joe Creese, Hutchings and Ferguson-Obamwonyi to exploit on the counterattack. Sam Harvey was pulling the strings from midfield and a second goal came when Ryan Pugh capped a good performance by coolly firing the ball through a melee of players from the edge of the box past keeper Ryan Wilkins.

Fully on top of the game several chances were spurned by Harvey who could have had a hat trick but for Wilkins heroics in goal, Creese and Ferguson-Obamwonyi when the game should have sealed the game.

The visitors pulled a goal back when a shot squeezedunder the body of Matt Hill which followed a nervy fifteen minutes as Minehead found a burst of energy in their play. To counter this Ollie Clements was brought on to use all his experience to calm his team from the midfield area and George Fake to hold the ball more in the centre forward position and when Jordon Bonner suffered a leg injury Kyran Garrett was his replacement. The final scoreline flattered the visitors but the important outcome was Wrington Redhill secured the three points on offer to keep their promotion hopes alive as they now face five big games on the road.
