Welton Rovers Reserves 2 Wrington Redhill 2

The starting eleven had one change from the impressivewin at Worle for this midweek fixture away to Welton Rovers Reserves, with Ollie Clements stepping in for the absent player/manager Leigh White in midfield.

It looked like the team would continue from where they had left off following a dream start when Joe Creese lashed onto a loose ball inside the penalty area sending it past the bewildered home keeper Lewis Isaac after only thirty-four seconds from the first whistle to start the game. For the next fifteen minutes the team were in fullon attacking mode and creating chance after chance but the final thrust to command full control was thwarted by a combination of Isaac saves, desperate defending and perhaps most critical a failure to find that ruthless goal scoring finish.

As so often happens in such games the hosts were allowed to claw there way back and equalised from a set piece. A corner was won and as the kick was about to be delivered no one picked up an advancing player to the box who rose to meet the cross and headed the ball goalward and whilst the in-form Matt Hill smothered the attempt another player was on hand to help it into the net. This equaliser energised the home team who came more into the game thereafter.

At the start of the second half Sam Parkinson and Jack Hutchings replaced Matt Walsh and George Fake. The play became a much more even affair and both teams created numerous chances and whilst goalkeeper Hill has found excellent form of late, he could not prevent the home side from going ahead with a swift counterattack being slotted home for a 2-1 lead.

From the initial stages looking as if a handsome win was on the cards, Wrington Redhill were now desperate to take something out of the game. Another midfield change was made with Ayrton Phillips replacing Travis Yule-Turner who had enjoyed another good performance. However, they were thankful that the industrious Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi from a diagonal run into the box managed to thread the ball through the home defence for a goal which at least clinched a point from a game that should well and truly have been sewn up in the first quarter of an hour.
