Ashton & Backwell Reserves 1 Wrington Redhill 2

This game was played under floodlights on Wednesday evening against Ashton and Backwell Reserves. On a rain induced zippy pitch it was the home side that started brightly with a quick tempo moving the ball well as Wrington Redhill struggled in the initial period of the game. The team was indebted to keeper Matt Hill in keeping the hosts at bay and keeping them in contention as the back four of Josh Pitt, Dan Ferguson, Ethan Johnson, and Jordon Bonner were also kept busy.

The hosts were stunned when from an attack the ball reached Bonner on the left edge of the penalty area and produced a great strike which flew past home keeper Ryan Clarke into the top right corner to take a 1-0 lead. Despite this Ashton and Backwell continued to apply pressure without reward. The visitors then served up a scintillating counterattack with pace, poise and movement involving Joe Creese, Travis Yule-Turner and Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi firing past Clarke for a half-time 2-0 lead.

The home side never gave up and pulled a goal back midway through the second half and nearly levelled when they hit a post but rugged defending with midfield support from Ayrton Phillips, Leigh White and Ryan Pugh plus substitutes Ollie Clements, George Fake and Kyran Garrett held on to gain a vital three points.

Player of the Match was awarded to Jordon Bonner
