Yatton & Cleeve 1 Wrington Redhill 2.

Wrington Redhill’s Somerset County League season got off to a solid start with their first fixture held Tuesday evening away to their near neighbours Yatton and Cleeve played at the Hangstones Sports Ground.
The hosts started on the front foot and in the early stages Alex Bird was lively leading the attack, but the first real chance fell to Wrington Redhill. Ollie Clements floated in a free kick from the left and Corey Thomas-Barker’s header was just wide of the upright. Generally, the back line of Si Hewish, Leigh White, Daniel Ferguson and skipper Ethan Johnson were coping well and feeding the midfield of Clements, Thomas-Barker, Parkinson and Walsh to gain control and set up chances for George Fake and Joe Creese.
Yatton & Cleeve fresh off a fine win at AFC Brislington  on Saturday we certainly not overrun by the visitors confident start and almost took the lead when a swift counter attack left Bird with a clear shot on goal but his effort drifted just wide. Wrington Redhill eventually  took the lead when Matt Walsh met a cross from Joe Creese and cushioned it into the path of CoryThomas-Barker who shot into the bottom corner past the home keeper, Tom Murphy. With Fake and Creese working tirelessly up front it looked like the lead would be extended but the hosts held out to half time with the score at 1-0.
As expected Yatton and Cleeve came on strong after the interval searching for an equaliser and this duly arrived when Wing Ho Chiu darted in between White and Ferguson and headed home a cross that really should have been prevented.
The introduction of Ryan Pugh, Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi and Jack Hutchings refreshed the attacking impetus and for spells Wrington Redhill dominated the play and looked most likely to add to the score line. The second goal came from a corner and whilst Fake’s first effort was pushed away by Murphy it was straight back to him and he made no mistake and volleyed the ball into the net. The lead looked to be extended further when a bullet drive from Jack Hutchings, making his league debut for the Club, crashed against the inside of the upright and somehow rebounded to safety.
The home side kept plugging away with mainly high balls into the penalty area and custodian James Williams was alert enough to snuff out the danger to ensure a first game victory was secured.
Wrington Redhill’s Player of the Match award went to George Fake for his goal that earned the victory.
