Somerton Town 5 Wrington Redhill 1

After a fine, win at Yatton in midweek, it was back to earth with a bump for Wrington Redhill at Somerton. The match started evenly enough with both sides knocking the ball around confidently and probing for an opening. Redskins Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi had the 1st meaningful shot of the afternoon but his left foot curler was well dealt with by Barrell in goal for Somerton. At the other end Williams saved well from Lambert and a Dyer header hit the post. Joe Creese was proving to be too quick for Somerton to deal with and kept getting brought down and Matt Walsh was also getting harshly treated. Somerton were lively up front but Dan Ferguson and Leigh White were dealing well with everything that came their way. Si Hewish was seeing plenty of the ball down the right hand side and for half an hour things were very even. Somerton then took the lead when the ball fell to Rob Haggett on the edge of his own box from a Wrington Redhill corner. He ran the length of the pitch and cut inside Cory Thomas-Barker before beating James Williams from close range. The visitors were spurred into action by this goal but chances were hard to come by. Shots by Ryan Pugh and Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi were charged down and the lively Jack Hutchings saw a couple of half chances well dealt with.
The 2nd half started in torrential rain and 5 minutes in it was 2 nil to the home side. Ryan Pugh’s mistimed header put White in trouble and his sliced clearance eventually fell to Briant who chipped the ball over the stranded Williams. Manager White shuffled the pack, when Ethan Williams came on for Walshy Rory Thomas came on for Ryan Pugh and then the influential Thomas Barker picked up an injury and was replaced by Jordon Bonner making his debut. 10 minutes later a huge slice of luck saw Somerton go 3 up when a cross from the right was completely miss kicked by Jamie Brown but this meant that goalkeeper Williams was sold a dummy leaving Brown with an open goal to roll the ball into. 3 soon became 4 as the Redskins chased the game when Brown was put clean through once again and his well struck shot gave Williams no chance.
There was a bright spell for the visitors when an Ollie Clements corner was cleared straight back to him on the left and his pinpoint cross picked out Hutchings on the far post and he thumped his header past Barrell. The resurgence was short lived and Somerton rounded things off when substitute Sargent was brought down by Williams when clean through and up stepped Brown to complete his hat-trick.
Wrington Redhill travel to Nailsea & Tickenham Reserves on Wednesday evening then Welton Rovers Reserves next Saturday.
