Worle 1 Wrington Redhill 2
Wrington Redhill completed their preseason preparations when a visit to Worle which brought an excellent performance especially in the first half when they had to enjoy some crazy summer conditions with torrential rain throughout!
Player manager Leigh White’s young team kept up the swift passing game that he hopes will be their trademark for the season ahead. In this game although having most of the possession a combination of excellent saves by the home keeper, the woodwork and a couple of a wayward shots meant that it was Worle who took the lead. With their first decisive move on the half hour saw the ball eventually squared across the 6 yard box and thumped into the net leaving keeper James Williams with no chance !
Soon however the visitors were back on level terms when George Fake’s 1st touch bamboozled his marker leaving himself just enough room to crash a shot in off the post to make it one each .
Although the visitors made several changes at half-time their rhythm and tempo remained exactly the same resulting in several more chances and they deservedly took the lead with a fine shot from Chris Bradley. The ball was laid into his path and his cross shot found the back of the net.
This was by no means a one-sided affair but James Williams in goal forWrington Redhill dealt confidently with everything that came his way.
The league season starts with an away game at Yatton and Cleeve at their Hang Stones ground in Yatton on Tuesday, the 17th of August at 6:30 pm then followed in quick succession by 4 further away fixtures due to the fact that Wrington Redhill share the ground with the cricket team .
White commented ‘ I have been very pleased with our preparations with training session and all friendly fixtures having been competitive and an indication of where we are and how will we will be able to cope with the league this season. I see us as a side capable of competing at the top end of our division . We have put together a young talented group of players whose abilities or unquestionable. With my assistance Mark Brown and Sam Clements we will continue to encourage them to express themselves on the pitch and enjoy their football. There are also some wise old head is in the squad and I will be involving all the players during the season which hopefully this time around will not be interrupted as the previous two seasons have due to COVID-19’
We are ready, let’s go !
