Burnham Utd 2 Wrington Redhill 1.

With  a string of 3 games in a week coming up manager Leigh White shuffled the pack slightly for this game away to Burnham Utd. On a wet blustery day with both teams trying to play possession football the 1st chance fell to the visitors when George Fake’s fierce shot from the left of the area was well saved by goalkeeper Steve Bailey. Another came when Sam (Parky) Harvey  glanced an Ollie Clements free  kick but straight into the arms of Bailey. At the other end Matt Hill dealt well with a Watkins shot from the edge of the box before Ethan Johnson got back just in time to deflect Cameron Birch’s effort over the bar. For Wrington Redhill Reece Ferguson Obamwonyi went on great run down the left beating off challenge after challenge before feeding the ball into Fake who rolled it into the path of White who’s fierce shot flew just wide of the top corner. Burnham’s Jamie Derrick who had looked dangerous throughout opened up the visitors defence leaving players on their backside as he jinked and danced his way past everyone before laying the ball into the path of Josh Watkins who scored easily from close range.

The 2nd half continued in a similar fashion with the teams fairly evenly matched but with Burnham looking more likely to score. The visitors had plenty of trickery on the bench so Joe Creese replaced Si Hewish before Ryan Pugh and Ethan Williams came on for Rory Thomas and George Fake. Wrington Redhill got back on level terms after the ever lively Sam Harvey was fouled in midfield and Ollie Clements delivered the resulting free kick into the danger zone. Ethan Johnson’s aerial battle with both Burnham centre backs resulted in the ball falling kindly to Dan Ferguson who’s volley flew past Bailey into the bottom corner of the net. The visitors were now getting on top and pushing on for the winner before some lacklustre defending cost them the game. A simple through ball sent Powell away down the right and his cross found Cameron Birch unmarked at the far post. He had time to control the ball before stepping inside a sliding challenge and slotting calmly past Hill. The visitors did create one or two chances to equalise without success and Burnham held on for the win.
Leigh White and his management  team now need to pick the boys up for a tough midweek match under lights at Winscombe.
