A severely weakened Wrington Redhill team earned a hard-fought win over Frome Collegians.

Wrington were forced to play veteran Rich Lucas in goal and with both Centre halfs missing this was always going to be a difficult game. the injury situation got worse on ten minutes when Chris Gale was forced off with a head injury to be replaced by Callum Chainey.

Barry Sandquest nearly put the home side in front with a spectacular over head kick that flew just over the bar.

But it was Wrington went in front when the ever sharp Liam Knight cashed in on a defensive mistake to crash the ball home from close range. 0-1

H/T 0-1

Frome started the second half brightly and equalised on 47 minutes with Lloyd Mathews latching onto a through ball and beating Lucas low down to his right. 1-1

But it was Wrington that got the winner four minutes later. Good interplay between Knight and Harry Iles led to a cross that was headed into the top corner by Graham Cheeseman. 1-2

Frome then threw the proverbial ‘kitchen sink’ at the away team but stout defending kept them at bay for Wrington to hold onto the win.

Manager Smith said. ‘We rode our luck at times but what a great team effort. Everyone that played in this game gave everything. We just need to keep that going’

MOTM Harry Iles; Outstanding defensive and offensive performance.
