Despite our home games  being off recently because of the frozen ground there has been plenty of footballers turning up at ‘The Rec’, old ones mostly! Held annually, the ‘Roy Hillman Memorial Lunch’ is a chance for ex-players and club members to get together, chat and catch up. Most take the opportunity to remind each other how good they once were and to embellish as many old stories as possible.
This hugely popular event was, as always, well attended with some people making special effort to be there including our exiled club President Tim Bush who flew in from his home in Spain. We were also honoured to have 5 men in their 80s in attendance, 2 of whom claim to be ‘still available for selection’ and all of them ready to talk about proper football.
Tim Bush gave a heartfelt speach in which he reminded us all what a great club we have to enjoy and be proud of. In a more serious few moments he asked us to remember Roy and also Alan Garrett our ex President who passed so suddenly and tragically earlier this year.
A delicious 3 course meal was enjoyed by all and special thanks must go to The Rec Bar for catering beyond normal expectations. We’ll done to all those who attended and made it another Wrington Redhill day to remember.
