Wrington Redhill 2 Wells City reserves 3

Both, teams should be congratulated for providing such a high tempo full blooded game on such a sweltering day at The Rec`. Both teams like to get the ball down and pass it quickly on the near perfect surface with Wells just edging the early exchanges. A free kick conceded just outside of the box was well struck by Well’s Kieran Padstow and brought the 1st of a series of fine saves by Matt Hill in goal for Wrington Redhill. The resulting corner was headed clear by Rhys Farmer who partnered manager Leigh White in the heart of the home defence. Wrington Redhill posed a threat of their own with shots from Ryan Pugh and then Jack Hutchings being charged down by a desperate Wells defence . The visitors went ahead after 20 minutes when a through ball from Will Reilly found Nick Fowler who slotted past Hill for a 1 nil lead. They could have gone further ahead except for some heroics from goalkeeper Hill saving point blank shots from Fowler then a double save from Oliver Bryant then Lois Degregorio.

Wrington Redgill could have equalised When Reece Furguson-Obamwonyi put Joe Creese clean through but his attempt was smothered by Harrison Veale in goal for Wells.

The 2nd hand started with Wrington Redhill probing for a equalisor with Ayrton Phillips, Ryan Pugh and Ollie Clements starting to get a grip in midfied. The equaliser came on the hour when Ferguson-Obamwonyi’s trickery tempted Harvey Hadrill into a rash challenge resulting in a penalty. Jack Hutchings confidently struck his penalty past Veale to make it 1 all.

This seemed to stir the visitors into action and  they could have gone back in front immediately when a cross from Stone was headed down by Fowler so hard that it bounced up and over the bar. They did eventually go ahead when a mix up in Wrington Redhill’s back line allowed George Carey to nip and finish smartly past the stranded Hill. Ethan Johnson (for White) and Sam (Parky) Harvey (for Pugh) came on to add some fresh legs closely followed by Rory Thomas (for Bonner) George Fake (for Hutchings) and Matt Walsh (for Phillips). Wrington Redhill could have equalised when Harvey sized on a poor clearance from goalkeeper Veale bit his long range effort sailed agonisingly over. This was replicated more effectively at the other end when the previously brilliant Hill’s poor clearance was controlled by Carey who’s long range shot flew over Hill and into the empty net. In a determined final fling the home side made it 2-3 when a George Fake volley beat Veale but the final whistle went straight after to end this pulsating affair.

Referee Iain Ballinger was excellent throughout leaving the Wrington Redhill’s head coach Sam Clements with nothing to moan about…… well not much anyway!
