Wrington Redhill 1 Uphill Castle 6

Wrington Redhill hosted this league fixture with Uphill Castle the visitors to the Recreation Ground. The home side were looking to extend their five match unbeaten run and knew this would be a testing game against opponents second in the table and yet to lose a league game this season.

It was Wrington Redhill who started well and took the lead within five minutes when Sam Parkinson gained possession in midfield and slid the ball to Joe Creese who calmly passed it into the net round Ryan Scott in goal. Unfortunately, they could not capitalise on this good start as Uphill remained resilient and started to get into their rhythm and creating their own pressure on the home defence. Wrington Redhill lost the ball in a dangerous position which led to an equalising goal when a shot from the left by Macauly Lamont hung in the wind, striking the crossbar and over the line. A fairly even half ended at 1-1 and gave no clue as to what would follow.

Wrington Redhill were looking to go on with confidence to seek victory but this soon evaporated when a very poor start resulted in them making wrong decisions on the ball and too easily giving possession away. This allowed Uphill to break with counter attacks and take the lead when Joe Eyles skipped past defenders and unleashed a firm strike from the edge of the box. It went from bad to worse when Jack Askins added a third goal soon after. The game was virtually decided within fifteen minutes of the restart when giving the ball away yet again on the edge of their box led to Sam Beresford getting onto the score sheet at 4-1.

The home side made three substitutions but they were unable to change the course of the game. With Uphill in full control, aided and abetted by their hosts continuing to concede possession time and again, two further goals were added by Askins and Beresford to end the game with a resounding 6-1 victory.

It has to be said that this was a very poor performance, particularly in the second half when there seemed to be a lack of grit, spirit and commitment which surely the management team were hugely disappointed. All the players need to take heed of set back and realise nothing less than 100% commitment in every game at this level is required if the ambition to gain promotion is to be achieved.
