Wrington Rehill v Frome Collegians
The game kicked off on another Sunny, blustery afternoon at ‘The Rec’.
An even start to the game saw both teams trying to play football. Unfortunately on 11 minutes Tom Smith received a nasty injury and was forced to leave the pitch. This saw the introduction of Rory Thomas. On 21 minutes a long ball from Mike Rowcliffe was met by Cheeseman on the back post that the keeper saved well at the foot of the post.
Then an event rarer that ‘Halley’s comet was observed at The Rec when Rory Thomas (Pictured) scored his first goal for the club after 148 appearances. On 25 minutes another pass from the impressive Mike Rowcliffe found Thomas in space in the box. Thomas shot was deflected past the away keeper for the history making moment 1-0.
Wrington were now on top and continued to press the play pinning Frome back in their half. A fine cross by Andow saw Cheeseman just put his header wide. The game was now end to end and on 38 minutes Frome equalised.
A misplaced Wrington pass was intercepted in midfield and played out wide, a low cross to the back post was driven home by Rustell for the equaliser 1-1.
The score remained the same until half time.
H/T 1-1
The second half started with Frome changing their keeper due a dislocated finger. The game was even as both teams worked hard to gain an advantage. Clarke in the Wrington goal made a great from a Rustell snap shot. Then on 78 minutes Frome took the lead. A slick move down the left led to a cross ball, a neat piece of play then found Harrington in space in the Wrington box and from 10 yards out Harrington finished into the top of the net.
Wrington now pushed hard for an equaliser and a Cheeseman header was well saved on the line. Wrington continued to press right to the end of the game but to no avail and Frome took all 3 points.
F/T 1-2
A game that Wrington probably had the better chances in but they were unable to convert those chances and Frome found a way to get the job done.
Manager Smith is keen for the season not to drift away and has stressed this to the players. The lads will be doing all they can on Tuesday when Watchet visit ‘The Rec’ for our first evening game of the season 6.30 KO
MOTM: Mike Rowcliffe. Another impressive performance from the centre midfielder.
