Worle 0 Wrington Redhill 2

This Somerset County Senior Cup tie was contested by near neighbours Worle and Wrington Redhill, a Premier league side versus the Division 1 visitors. Normally a pulsating game would be expected in a Cup local derby but as it turned out Wrington Redhill started a little sluggish but did well to limit any chances to the home side. However, Wrington Redhill got into their stride taking control of the game with Joe Creese and Travis Yule-Turner looking lively and causing Worle’s defenders lots of problems.

Dan Ferguson ventured forward and unleashed a viciousshot that Wojciech Jankowiak did well to push the ball past the post. As the half time break was approaching Wrington Redhill were becoming the dominant team as the score remained at 0-0.

When the game restarted the midfield of Leigh White, Josh Pitt and Travis Yule-Turner had a total grip on the game allowing full backs Matt Walsh and Jordon Bonner to venture forward down the flanks with Dan Fergusonand Ethan Johnson in commanding form at the heart of defence. The visitors looked like taking the lead when George Fake headed a Creese cross over the crossbar and shortly after Jack Hutchings was introduced for him. He was soon in the thick of the action and his effort at goal rebounded to Jordan Bonner who slammed the ball into the net for his first goal for the Club and a deserved 1-0 lead.

With an important midweek league fixture away at Welton the influential Yule-Turner was rested from the fray with Ryan Pugh coming on to slot in and make sure the midfield kept a dominant grip on the game.

It was not surprising that the lead doubled when Ollie Clements, on for Bonner, played a superb long ball to Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi who had been causing chaos with his mazy runs and on this occasion, he controlled the ball and weaved his way past 4 defenders and slotted past Jankowiak to clinch the victory.

A last-minute shot was well saved by Matt Hill at the foot of a post to keep a clean sheet for the first time this season.

This was a great all round team performance making it difficult to choose the Player of the Match which the Wrington Supporters awarded to Travis Yule-Turner for a first-class midfield display and in the thick of the match throughout.
