Wrington Redhill 2 Timsbury Athletic 1

Looking to build on Saturday’s win, Wrington Redhill faced a tough fixture on Easter Monday against high flying Timsbury Athletic, with this game being played at Worle Schools 3g facility. There was one change to the starting eleven with Ryan Pugh returning in midfield in place of Ayrton Phillips.

As expected Timsbury started strongly seeking to impose dominance over their lowly placed opponents, but thehome side were in no mood to be rolled over by a team that had inflicted a heavy defeat in the reverse fixture. Wrington Redhill stayed solid and compact when out of possession and were a real threat on their swift counter attacks, with Travis Yule-Turner, Sam Harvey and Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi looking very lively.

Wrington Redhill’s first chance came when following a good build up Harvey saw his shot on target saved by keeper Jack Scrivens. Dan Ferguson broke out of defence and made a terrific dribble  all the way into the visitors’ penalty area but couldn’t quite get a shot away when faced by Scrivens and whilst some called for a penalty as he ended up on the ground the referee was not in a lenient mood to award a spot kick.

Max Smith and Pitt were getting on the ball more and more in midfield making the team tick and the best chance of the half came when Ryan Pugh burst through on goal, but his left footed effort blazed over the bar. Almost immediately after and as half time beckoned it was Timsbury who broke forward with the ball reaching Samuel Gregory who unleashed a fierce drive from the edge of the box which had too much power for Regan D’Arcy to keep out and take a 1-0 interval lead.

The second half started with Ayrton Phillips replacing Ryan Pugh and within a minute had the ball in the net with an angled shot into the top corner of the goal with the game back to all square. This was the impetus needed to claw their way back into the game and the defensive quartet of Ollie Clements, Dan Ferguson, Ethan Johnson, and Jordon Bonner were excelling in their defensive duties. This allowed Pitt to be pushed further forward to cause the Timsbury defence problems with his probing runs and one-twos with his strikers.

An excellent five pass move ended with ball being played into the path of Yule-Turner who made no mistake in gliding the ball past Scrivens to put his team in front. He was substituted by Joe Creese, who could have killed the game off but following a mazy solo run down the left flank he couldn’t get the ball past the keeper as he cut into the goal area.

Timsbury made three substitutions and pushed everyone forward in search of an equaliser. Wrington Redhill’s task of defending become even more difficult as with only 10 minutes of play left Phillips was sin-binned which effectively ended his game. His tiring ten men dug in deep to cling onto the game and were indebted to keeper Regan D’Arcy who pulled off two brilliant saves, to add to his already sound performance,  and to the elation of the final whistle.

So, an excellent Easter weekend for the team picking up six most welcomed points. This is the character and unquestionable ability this team possess and now needs to be repeated for the remaining nine games of the season to enable them to keep their Premier division status.

The Supporters’ player of the match was awarded to Regan D’Arcy.
