Wrington Redhill 3 Westfield 0
Having lost the opening game of the season at Westfield Wrington Redhill started the game in determined mood and spent most of the opening 15 minutes camped in the visitors half. Reece Ferguson Obamwonyi was at his mesmerising best and some great link up play between Sam (Parky)Harvey and Travis Yule-Turner had Westfield defending frantically.i it was however the visitors who came close to opening the scoring when a long punt into the area was headed clear by Dan Ferguson but the ball fell at the feet of Westfield’s centre half Rydford who’s long range effort had Matt Hill scampering across his line to watch it fly just wide. Travis Yule-Turner opened the scoring when Sam Harvey controlled the ball on the right and rolled it into his path so that he could slam into the net past Dan Tamblyn in goal. Westfield almost equalised when Ollie Clements sliced a clearance that was heading in until Hill pulled of the save of the day and pushed I away for a corner It should have bee 2 soon after when Turner put Hutchings clean thrrough but his shot was just wide. Turner did make it 2 just before half time when the ball fell to him just outside the box and he curled the ball into the net past the flailing Tamblyn.
The 2nd half continued in much the same way with Wrington Redhill in charge but Westfield still creating the odd chance. Fullbacks Pitt and Bonner were causing Westfield plenty of problems with overlapping runs and Turner and Ferguson Obamwonyi continued to run at an increasingly desperate defence. The 3rd goal came when Joe Crease (on for Turner) was put through by a Harvey flick and his shot was well saved by the outrushing Tamblyn but the ball rebounded to Ferguson Obamwonyi who steadied himself before chipping it over everyone into the empty net. Job done everybody though but there was just time for Ethan Johnson to make a very late lung that sent Westfield sub Millard flying and got Johno deservedly booked which means he’ll miss next weeks trip to Staplegrove.
There were several contenders for this week’s Supporters Man of the Match but deservedly top of the poll was Josh Pitt.
