Chard Town 7 Wrington Redhill 1

With the pitch classed as ‘soft but playable’ on Saturday morning the Leigh White’s team knew they were in for a battle when they arrived at Chard’s notoriously slopey ground. Having lost the toss they started the game kicking down the slope and could have got off to a flyer when the 1st chance fell to Josh Pitt but his effort was well saved by Jason Contreras in goal for the home team. Chard took the lead early in the game when a good exchange between Will Board a Jason Clapp resulted in Board beating D’Arcy from close range. The 2nd came soon after when the visitors were caught out by a quickly taken free kick awarded to Chard when Wrington Redhill had thought was theirs. Having all pushed up to attack down the slope they were surprised when the kick went the other way and Board clipped it over for Jordan Clapp to run at D’Arcy and score. The visitors then had a series of good chances, 2 for Reece Ferguson Obamwonyi, 1 was well saved and 1 crept just wide before Chard countered and a through ball up the slope allowed Clapp to outpace the defence and add a 3rd for Chard. Soon after another Wrington Redhill attack allowed  Ethan Williams to scramble the ball over the line to make it 3 – 1 at half time.
Again in the 2nd half Chard showed their superior ability to cope with the slope as they continued to dominate the game. For the visitors Rory Thomas had replaced the injured Bonner at left back and formed part of a busy back 4 with Walsh, Johnson and captain Ferguson. Midway through the half Jamie Burnett, making his senior debut, replaced Matty Walsh as Wrington Redhill continued to play their part in the game and at times played some nice football but In the end  they were well beaten. Regan D’Arcy had a great game in goal but couldn’t prevent Board and Clapp both completing their hat tricks before Liam Neal added a 7th in the final seconds.
