The only change to Saturday’s starting line up at Worle was the return of skipper Leigh White in place of the unavailable Rory Thomas. Chris Holland and Charlie Burgess were also on the bench joining Chris Collis.

It was Wrington Redhill who started on the front foot and early chances fell to George Martin and Whitey. An excellent exchange of passes between Andrew Lilley, Whitey and Martin forced a corner. From the corner kick taken by Ollie Clements the ball was scrambled away but to the feet of brother Sam who struck the ball through a melee of players past the hapless ‘keeper Olli Eglon to take a 1-0 lead.

In taking this early lead you would expect the visitors to keep up the pressure on a side that had suffered a heavy defeat in their previous opening game of the season. However it was Clutton that raised their game and energy levels and took the game to their opponents. However from an Ollie Clements free kick Louis Rouvrais was unlucky to see his header go just wide of the goal. Shortly after Clutton’s Adam Holcombe saw his free kick cleared off the line by Mike Rowcliffe.

The second half again saw Clutton taking the initiative and threatening to equalise and their best chance fell to Billy Garrett who blasted over with an open goal in front of him following a slick attacking move from his team. On a breakaway Chris Bradley found himself with only the ‘keeper to beat but instead passed to Rowcliffe who tried to score but a defender was on hand to thwart his effort.

Wrington Redhill doubled their lead on 75 minutes when inter-passing between Whitey and Bradders found Whitey free to slot the ball into the net with his left foot. This goal was certainly needed as the home team were not giving up and indeed it took another clearance off the line by Bradders to keep a clean sheet.

All 3 subs were used and played their part in grinding out this result. All agreed it was not a scintillating performance but in the end who passes up 3 points earned away from home at this early stage of the season.
