Wrington Redhill 4 Burnham Utd 2

For only their second home fixture of the season so far Wrington Redhill welcomed Burnham Utd to the Recreation Ground and a tough fixture was expected as the visitors have been a bit of a bogey team in recent seasons and were lying in third spot in the league table.Following on from a ten days break since their excellent victory at near neighbours Winscombe before there was only one enforced change to the starting eleven with Matt Walsh taking his defensive spot with Josh Pitt moving into central midfield for the injured Ayrton Phillips.

From the first whistle it was Burnham who got into their stride first, moving the ball quickly down both flanks and delivering crosses into the penalty area and unsettling the back line and took the lead inside five minutes when poor defending allowed Russell Holley to fire past Matt Hill. The lead could have been extended but an attempt went wide to the relief of the home supporters.

Eventually the home team got a grip on the game with their passing game in mode and on twenty minutes animpressive one-two  on the edge of the box saw Sam Parkinson feed Travis Yule-Turner and he made no mistake drilling the ball low and hard past Jack Barritt to level the score. This goal spurred on the hosts and their increasing pressure was winning  numerous free kicks and corners. It was from a corner that Wrington Redhill extended their lead as Sam Parkinson rose to meet a delivery from Ollie Clements and deftly glanced the ball with his forehead into the back of the net for a 2-1 half time lead.

There was no letting up when the second half got under way. Reece Ferguson-Obamwonyi, Joe Creese and Yule-Turner were running Burnham’s defence ragged with their pace and skills with Josh Pitt, Clements and Parkinson continually winning the midfield and supplying them with opportunities to get forward. A dazzling dribbling display from Ferguson-Obamwonyi, waltzing past defenders, ended with the ball over the line for his fourth goal in as many matches as his red-hotstreak continues.

The Redskins were in total control and Yule-Turner completed a brace to cap another impressive performance.

There was a late rally from Burnham, and they added another goal, but the defence was now holding stout through Walsh, Dan Ferguson, Ethan Johnson, and Jordon Bonner with Hill behind them prompting as needed.

To help see the game out with fresh legs Ryan Pugh, Leigh White and Jack Hutchings were subbed on. In the dying moments Joe Creese was brought down in the penalty box and whilst Hutching’s strike was sound unfortunately it clipped the right post and away but nonetheless a fine 4-2 victory was secured.
