Wrington v Chilcompton Sports
Sat 28th Jan 2017
Liam Knights’ (pictured) third goal in three games was not enough to save Wrington from defeat.
In truth there was little between the two sides and on balance Wrington probably played more football than the visitors. This however is no consolation when you lose the game.
Wrington made the worst possible start conceding a penalty in the first minute. There was some discussion that the player was well offside but the away penalty taker coolly slotted the pen away.
Wrington then controlled long periods of the game but the away team always looked dangerous when breaking forward.
Wrington got themselves level from a corner when the ball was headed toward goal and Knight, standing a couple of yards from the line redirected the header into the goal.
H/T 1-1
The second half was an even affair but the away side got the all important next goal. A jinking run from the ever dangerous Chilcompton right-winger saw him pass 3 defenders and slot the ball home under the advancing Wrington keeper. 1-2
A further penalty followed and despite ‘Polish Dan’ making a great save the ball ran out into the centre of the goal where the penalty taker knocked in the rebound. 1-3
F/T 1-3
Manager Lucas said.’ I asked the players to be more direct at half time and over hit the ball into the corners. We did not do this and tried to play a little too much football on a heavy pitch. Still we move on to difficult game at Shire next Saturday’
MOTM Chris Bradley -For being completely smashed by Sam Johnson in an aerial challenge. Being two footed in a nasty tackle and being generally clattered all afternoon.
