Wrington Redhill 1 Peasedown Miners Welfare 1
On a day with blistering wind and pouring rain trying to spoil decent football these 2 teams served up a cracker of a match. With the wind at their back the home team had the better of the early exchanges. A cross from Hutchings and Lewis Chappell slightly mistimed his header on this stormy day and it fell harmlessly into the arms of Freddie Haines in goal for the visitors. Peasedown broke the deadlock when Rob Hannah could only parry a cross cum shot from the right and it fell nicely for Nathan Flynn to rifle home from close range. Wrington Redhill continued to press but through balls were often over hit as the wind continued to howl. Harrison Campbell blasted way over when he eventually lost his marker Theo Avis from the edge of the box.. These 2 were having a ding dong battle and at one stage the ref had to stop the game and calm hem both down. The equaliser came before half time when Chappell was put through by a great ball from Hale but he still had a lot to do. He drew keeper Haines before slotting the ball past him and into the net for his 1st goal for the club since his recent transfer.
Half-time 1 – 1
Table toppers Peasedown must have fancied their chances in the 2nd half with help from storm Boelo at their backs but they certainly didn’t have it all their own way. With Cam Milkins (sponsored by Rygol Plastering), Hale and Marshman overworked in midfield it was time for the defence to shine. And shine they did with Skuse and Harding-James winning the aerial battle and full backs Weeks and Andrews keeping things quiet on the flanks Rob Hannah (sponsored by Tim Bush) was called into action with a brilliant double save when Sam Jones stole in looking for a winner. Just afterwards the one disappointing aspect of the afternoon came about when 2 giants, home team Connor Harding-James (sponsored by The Plough Inn Wrington) and Peasedown’s Watson became involved in a bit of pushing and shoving each other in the Peasedown box. (Connor said he was practicing his deipnosophist skills) With everyone expecting yellow cards the referee send them both off and the game continued as 10 a side. Anyone who’d ventured out to watch this had the weather and a Peasedown empleomania rec to contend with who wanted to run the game and tell us all what was happening .The best chance of the half fell to Hutchings (sponsored by OES Electrical ) when Cam Milkins fed him in near the end of the game.. He’s the man the home faithful would want this chance to fall to but on this occasion he shot weakly and the ball was gratefully gathered by Haines. The game ended 1 all and everyone trouped off for a hot shower and chance to eat some food and catillate in the dry.
