Wrington Redhill started the game with plenty of possession but didn’t really create much and were restricted to 2 long range efforts first from Jake Horton and then Callum Vickery. Middlezoy grew into the game and were in bossing it on the half hour when a deep corner from the left was headed back across goal and looking to heading in until Leigh White cleared it off the line. Half time 0 – 0
Middlezoy dominated the start of the 2nd half forcing 3 consecutive corners and were unlucky not to score when a goalmouth scramble was eventually cleared. The home team still looked dangerous going forward and after 55 minutes Vickery and Horton combined we’ll on the left leading to Vickery’s cross finding Mike Rowcliffe in space in the box who finished calmly to put Wrington Redhill 1 up. Soon after Vickery got clear again but his shot was deflected over by a Middlezoy defender. The visitors were certainly in charge for last half hour of the game but Wrington Redhill defended resolutely, Ethan Johnson blocked a clear chance and he and Sam Clements won header after header when the pressure was on. However Wrington Redhill always looked dangerous on the break especially Vickery who after 60 minutes worked himself room in the box to get a shot away that was well saved by the Middlezoy keeper. Matt Hill in goal for Wrington Redhill had a great game, in particular when he pulled off a brilliant save near the end as a fierce shot was deflected and heading for the bottom corner before he got across and pushed it wide.
This result owed so much to team spirit which manager Graham Cheeseman has brought with him to Wrington Redhill, the whole team had worked their socks off for each other.
