5 star performance at Winscombe

Winscombe 2 Wrington Redhill 5

On a lovely Spring day Wrington Redhill made the short journey down the road to Winscombe in search of some revenge after being  pipped in the reverse fixture.

It was a tight contest between the two last time out and the game started off that way with nothing really to talk about early on , strong challenges coming in from both teams and that would set the tone for the rest of the game.

It was Winscombe who drew first blood after a series of corners led to a header being nodded home leading to visible frustration from Will and Nick on the sideline.

Wrington Redhill kept their heads up though , with a set piece of their own they looked to fire back with Cam Milkins teeing up Jack Hutchings on the edge of the box who launched one but the Winscombe keeper did well to parry it away.

From here Winscombe had their tails up as they penned back Wrington Redhill and had the wind in their sails with the visiting fans hoping that their team could ride the storm , and that they did with Rob Hannah (sponsored by TimBush) called into action on more than one occasion.

Luke Weeks went into the book for a late challenge on the Winscombe winger, with not a lot of complaints, but just as the game was teetering towards Winscombe’s favour , Josh Skuke out of nothing found himself just inside Winscombe’s half and with the keeper in no man’s land a perfectly executed brought the game to 1-1 with a strike that is undoubtedly goal of the season.

From there Wrington Redhill withheld more pressure and their resistance was rewarded with the two sides going in level at half time.

In the second half it was Wrington Redhill who came out with that extra 10%, Cody Parslow came on shortly into the second half and his pace was a weapon for them down the right hand side.

And the visitors fast start to the half was rewarded, Josh Skuse (sponsored by Aquatics at Home)who was having a fantastic afternoon in the defensive midfield role found himself with space and Winscombe were made to pay as Will Mcloughlin bombed on from left back , getting in behind and there was no mistake with the finish as he arrowed his strike into the corner putting the visitors 2-1 up , Will Mcloughlin’s first goal for the club.

This was the start of a great rest of the second half for Wrington Redhill as not long after Cam Milkins (sponsored by JMC Captures)who so often gets an assist from corners this time drilled one to the edge of the box to Jack Hutchings who caught it well as it deflected into the back of the net. 3-1.

Winscombe then gave themselves hope after visiting keeper Rob Hannah gave the ball away off his line and Winscombe were there to punish him, one that Hannah himself will be annoyed with. 3-2.

Winscombe had their first yellow card of the game after kicking the ball away from a Wrington free kick despite being behind and then not long after another booking after Winscombe’s midfielder lost his head and retaliated on the ground, Wrington Redhill’s midfield of the Milkins brothers and Skuse were definitely frustrating the Winscombe midfield as Cam Milkins made sure to stay in Winscombe’s heads with a few jokey words.

Shortly after Will Mcloughlin was replaced after a superb afternoon at left back from him, Harrison Campbell back from injury was the man who came on.

From there despite Winscombe in search of an equaliser , that didn’t stop Wrington Redhill from inflicting more damage to Winscombe as Jack Hutchings found himself through on goal before the Winscombe defender clearly brought him down and there was no other outcome but a red card.

And from there Jack Hutchings stepped up from just outside the box with the free kick and a beautifully converted strike nestled into the bottom left corner giving the keeper zero chance , 4-2 and that was the game.

Winscombe fought on looking to salvage something else but the back four consisting of Harding – James , Habgood , Weeks and Parslow held firm winning individual duels and not giving Winscombe an inch.

And to wrap up an afternoon to remember for the visitors as Jaiden Morris had a run at his defender as he effortlessly skipped round his man and found the corner on his weaker foot with a great finish set up by Campbell , that was 5-2.

And that was the full time whistle as the visiting fans were delighted to see their team cruise to victory, it was one of the performance’s of the season no doubt.

Man of the match went to Josh Skuse and I don’t think any Wrington fan would disagree because he was everywhere, winning everything and picking up a worldie of a goal and an assist too , a brilliant performance from him.

Special shoutouts to Will Mclouglin who was superb at left back , grabbing his first goal for the club and Ollie Habgood at centre back too who has been away for a while but when called upon stepped in with a strong performance.
