Wrington Redhill 1 Ashcott 0
This was a hard fought victory over a good Ashcott team who will surely be promoted when all is done and dusted this season. Even the harshest Wrington smellfungus couldn’t find anything to complain about in this performance. After a lively start by the visitors Wrington Redhill took the lead after some good work by Jack Hutchings (sponsored by OES Electrical Supplies Ltd). He crossed from the right into the path of Elliot Edwards (sponsored by the Golden Lion Wrington) who crashed home a right foot shot past keeper Will Pope for a 1 nil lead. Ashcott almost equalised soon after when the lively centre forward Rufeo Taylor’s header was tipped over by Rob Hannah in goal for Wrington Redhill . Taylor was well marshalled and frustrated all afternoon and had no chance to check if his anhedronia had been cured. The home team were dealt a blown soon after when Harrison Campbell limped off having tweaked his hamstring but this allowed teenager Max Holder to join the party with his big bag of tricks. Lew and Cam Milkins along with Josh Skuse were overworked in midfield as Ashcott pushed for the equaliser and Edwards and Connor Harding-James were busy closing down and blocking shots from Taylor and Jason Watson who were always looking to get their shots away.
Half time 1 – 0
Rather than sit back and defend Wrington Redhill were taking the battle to Ashcott as the 2nd half started with full backs Luke Weeks and Will McLoughlin getting forward whenever they could. Jack Hutchings and Jaiden Morris were causing all sorts of problems for King and Wilson in the heart of the visitors defence and Hutchings had a very good shout for a penalty turned down when he reached a Skuse through ball before the pair of them dived in to send him sprawling. At the other end the home team back line held firm and Rob Hannah dealt calmly with a series of crosses and long range shots. Toward the end of the game Max Holder thought he’d put the game to bed as he cut inside King and went to place a shot in the top corner only to watch as if drifted just over with Pope stranded. Ashcott continued to throw everyone forward in search of a goal including their keeper who came up for a last minute corner. It was as not to be and the senectitude ridden group of local supporters were glad to hear the whistle when it came.
Supporters Man of the Match – Jack Hutchings. Set up the goal and was a real thorn in the flesh for the Ashcott back line.
