this last minute free kick flew just over the bar

Worle 3 Wrington Redhill 2

Another tough game to complete their preseason programme saw Wrington Redhill away at another team from the division above and resulted in a narrow defeat. Worle certainly started the brighter of the 2 sides and could have gone a head when Cahill ran onto a through ball but his shot was well saved by Hill in goal for the visitors. Worle went 1 up after 10 minutes when the ball was nicked off Ferguson as he tried to usher it out for a goal kick. It was laid back into the path of Tom Adams who slammed it home from close range. There was a great battle in midfield between Parker for Worle and veteran Leigh White for the visitors but Wrington Redhill  were looking 2nd best until a crunching tackle from White on Cahill seemed to fire his team up and Thomas, Bradley, Reece Ferguson and Creese started to come to life. Wrington Redhill took control of the game for the final 15 minutes of the half which resulted in a deserved equaliser. A corner from the left fell to Creese in the 6 yard box who almost scored himself and then passed to George Fake who slammed it past Dancey in goal for Worle from close range.

Half time 1 – 1

Both teams made some changes at half time and but the game remained evenly matched. Worle took the lead when a through ball put Tom Adams through on goal. Dan Ferguson was forced bring him down for a clear penalty which Adams took himself to make it 2 – 1. The visitors kept at it and a dazzling run down the left by Joe Creese who them laid it back to Ethan Williams was only kept out by a last ditch block tackle. Wrington Redhill did get back on level terms after great work down the right involving Si Hewish and Matt Walsh led to a cross being fired in flicked on by White and slammed in at the far post giving Fake his 2nd of the afternoon. With a draw looking the likely outcome Worle stole the winner when a rare miss-timed header from skipper Ethan Johnson followed by another from Jason Potter left Lewis Cahill through on goal. Potters’s desperate attempt to stop him led to another stone wall penalty which Cahill smashed home himself sending Hill the wrong way. Still Wrington Redhill pushed for an equaliser and were almost rewarded when, with the last kick of the game, Fake’s free kick flew just over the bar.
