Wrington Redhill 0 Somerton Town 3
Wrington Redhill were running on empty for the last game of the season against a fully focused Somerton Town who turned up knowing a win would see them promoted along with their hosts. The humongous effort that Wrington Redhill had made at Uphill and Yatton to secure runners up spot had left them without several regulars in the starting lineup.
The game was fairly even for 10 minutes but Somerton began to impose themselves and were slowly but surely taking control. Fake, the club’s top scorer but today playing in goal for the injured Hill, had already been called into action but could do nothing about the opener. It came from a disputed penalty when Leigh White was adjudged to have hauled down Jamie Brown who was through on goal. Brown got up and riffle home the penalty. Having gone 1 down the home team woke up and started probing through Ayrton Phillips and Sam Harvey but the usually lively Creese, Hutchings and Ferguson-Obamwonyi were being well marshaller by a hard working Somerton back four. 10 minutes before half time it was 2 nil when Fake deflected a Brown shot onto the post only for the ball to rebound to Max Dyer who smashed it home. Things got worse for the home side when Joe Creese limped off to be replaced by skipper Dan Ferguson who himself was protecting a knock.
The 2nd half saw another change when Ollie Clements replaced Ryan Pugh but Somerton remained in charge. Wrington Redhill’s back line of Josh Pitt, Ethan Johnson, Leigh White and Jordon Bonner were worked really hard and eventually Somerton got their 3rd. Fake spilled a cross to the feet of Joe Lister who made it 3. Both sides continued to work and probe but the game finished at 3 nil and Somerton were able to celebrate.
