Wrington Redhill 0 Ashcott 1
- On a perfect day for good football these teams served up closely fought game that could have gone either way. The 1st decent chance went to the visitors when Luce’s cross from the right found Lewis Townsend at the far post but his header bounced comfortably into the arms of Rob Hannah. At the other end Lewis Chappell controlled Cam Milkins (sponsored by Rygol Plastering) cross from the right and cleverly made himself space to curl a shot off. With Ashcott keeper Will Pope well beaten everyone held their breath as the ball sailed agonising wide of the target. Ollie Andrews (sponsored by OES Electrical Supplies Ltd) at left back had his work cut out as the very lively Ollie Luce took him on at every opportunity. Andrews did well to contain the threat as well as getting forward down the left with a series of crosses and his trade mark long throws. Hannah (sponsored by Tim Bush) brought off 2 great saves to keep things even first pushing a Loxton drive around the post and just after an even better save from a Tom Haggett shot. For Wrington Redhill Jack Hutchings fed the ball into Chappell who got a scuffed bobbly shot off that Pope did well to push wide. The final action of the half saw the ball ricocheting between Josh Skuse and Elliot Edwards to Ashcott’s Rufeo Taylor who really should have put the visitors in front but he shot wildly over the bar. The goalscoring for both teams had been a bit bagasse recently but the 2nd half was still full of promise
Half-time 0 – 0
The 2nd half saw more of the same as both teams searched for a breakthrough. Cam Milkins, Jake Marshman and Marshall Hale were ruling the midfield for the opening 15 minutes but Ashcott slowly but surely took control of the game. The stalemate was broken as Skuse (sponsored by Aquatics at Home) went to ground to block a shot from Taylor who instead turned and threw himself over the outstretched leg and went down with the cry of a dunkadoo. Penalty! And so is was as Henry Hutchings strode up and sent Hannah the wrong way from the spot. Wrington Redhill threw all they had at the visitors looking for a gap in their defence but just couldn’t find the precious vug they were after. This game of fine margins was won by marginally the better team
