Wrington Redhill 1 Isle of Wedmore 1
The 1st half of this close fought encounter was surprisingly scrappy given the reputations these 2 teams have for possession football. Wrington Redhill had Cam and Lew Milkins pulling the strings as usual with Marshall Hale linking well with the forwards. Josh Skuse was working his socks off in midfield blocking, tackling and breaking things up when Wedmore had the ball. Left back Ollie Andrews (sponsored by OES Electrical supplies Ltd) had his work cut out at left back looking after Wedmore’s lively James Bayliss as well as getting forward at every opportunity. Probably the most exciting incident in the 1st half came when, from a corner on the right home team skipper Connor Harding-James was being held so tightly by his marker he crashed to the ground with his marker beneath him. Nobody wants Connor landing on them and with the marker winded, siaoloquent and cursing his luck a fracas ensued resulting in Jake Marshman being sin-binned for a discussion he had with the ref. In the home goal Rob Hannah didn’t have any difficult saves to make but spent a lot of time with the ball at his feet clearing out and passing long balls to wingers Parslow and Eason to get things moving.

At half time Harrison Campbell (sponsored by LJ Electrical) came on for Skuse whose combative 1st half performance left him battered & bruised , probably in need of some opsonic meds to help him heal and, more importantly, on the brink of a 2nd yellow card. Lew Milkins moved back into midfield and Charlie Eason took over at right back.,Campbell had an immediate effect when an Ollie Andrews throw from the left eventually found Cody Parslow on the right. He weaved his magic and got a cross in that was only half cleared and sat up nicely for Campbell to crash home past keeper Tom Starks from the edge of the box. A rattled Wedmore went to work looking for the equaliser . 5 minutes later a Jordan Cook almost did just that when his long range effort drifted inches wide of the top corner. Mid way through the 2nd half Wrington Redhill were convinced they had won a penalty when Jake Marshman was upended just inside of the Wedmore box but the referee waved away their protests. Soon after the referee was more obliging but this time it was at the other end. Charlie Eason caught the winger who had just skipped past him and put in a (surely) perfectly timed tackle to knock the ball back to Hannah. An age passed as the referee thought carefully before blowing his whistle and pointing to the spot. Tom Baker stepped up and blasted his penalty into the roof of the net bringing Wedmore level. Nobody wanted to settle for a point at this stage and the home team almost went back in front when a corner from the right was met by Elliot Edwards just beyond the far post who put his header back across the 6 yard box inches beyond the reach of Harding-James and out for a goal kick. The game ended 1 all with nobody satisfied.
