Battling Draw back at the Rec’

Wrington Redhill 2 Peasedown Miners Welfare 2

It’s been a long time since the Rec’ has witnessed such a competitive game with both teams going hard at it from the start in front of 100+ spectators. Peasedown probably expected to turn up and boss the game given the recent form of these 2 teams but that didn’t happen. Whilst they probably had the lion’s share of possession they didn’t create anything thanks to Josh Skuse and Elliot Edward winning their headers and full back Luke Weeks snapping into tackles to keep Peasedown’s lively winger Rico Sobers quiet. At the other end Cody Parslow was causing trouble down the right and the deadlock was broken when his cross was blocked and went for a corner. From Cam Milkins corner Edwards rose above everyone at the far post to nod home past Regan Watkins in the Peasedown goal. They  were stunned by this and started to push hard for an equaliser leaving the lively Parslow and Harrison Campbell with space to run at their back line. A tricky Parslow run down the right allowed him to cross to the far post where Ollie Heywood running flat out just failed to get his header on target. As half time approached another piece of  Parslow magic saw the ball eventually reach Cam Milkins but his close range shot was blocked on the line.
Half time 1-0
As soon as the 2nd half got underway Wrington Redhill went 2 up when Harrison Campbell galloped down the left onto a sliced clearance cut in and thumped a shot past Watkins. Ever more determined action now from Peasedown saw Sobers switch wings to try his luck against Wrington Redhill’s young full back Will McLoughlin. He may as well not have bothered, the youngster stuck to the task brilliantly as part of a back line under plenty of pressure. Peasedown got one back with half an hour remaining when a loose ball rolled nicely into the path of substitute Sean Derrick who smashed it home giving Rob Hannah no chance. This had been coming and the equaliser arrived 10 minutes later when a blocked shot rebounded to Domenic Baressi who scored from close range. A lesser team may have folded at this point but  not Wrington Redhill. This battling performance was a joint effort from everyone on the pitch as the visitors search desperately for the points to get them promoted. Territorially Peasedown  were well on top but with midfield determination shown by Cam and Lew Milkins and Josh Oliver you’ve always got a chance. Not to mention the colossal performances from Skuse and Edwards in the heart of the home defence and some more great handling under pressure from Rob Hannah (sponsored by Tim Bush) in goal. It was the home side who were glad when the final whistle came.
