Glastonbury 1 Wrington Redhill 0
On a heavy pitch at the Abbey Moor Stadium it was a difficult night for the visitors. Unable to play their usual possession game they found themselves defending a barrage of long balls with Harding-James and Elliot Edwards fully occupied in aerial duals. 10 minutes in and Wrington Redhill started to get into the game as Josh Oliver and Cam and Lew Milkins were getting a grip in midfield and Cody Parslow was doing well down the right with his gallatorial runs but still Glastonbury looked the more likely to score. Stand in keeper Josh Skuse stopped that from happening on the half hour as he saved a point blank shot from Mullins in a goalmouth scramble. He was helpless however 5 minutes later when Cody Parlow’s under hit back pass was intercepted by Glastonbury’s Cameron Nicholson who rounded the stranded keeper and thumped his shot into the empty net.
Half-time 1 – 0
The 2nd half started with renewed energy from the visitors with Harrison Campbell and Jack Hutchings linking well but scoring chances were hard to come by. From a series of corners Elliot Edwards managed a couple of headers but nothing with enough power to beat Joe Beaverstock in goal for the hosts. At the other end Skuse handled efficiently when shots came in from Madge and then Mullens gathering both well as Nicholson was on hand waiting to pounce on any error. Wrington Redhill mixed things up bringing on Weeks and Holder to try something different. Weeks hit a powerful shot just over and Holder looked dangerous down the right hand side but Glastonbury were holding on well. Tempers got a bit frayed after Mortimer’s late challenge on Edwards saw him booked and his firm discussion with Harding-James had them both warned by the excellent referee James Knowles who got that exactly right despite the twattering from the home fans. As Mortimer and Harding-James shared a Mamihlapinatapai both teams knew that these 3 points saw Glastonbury draw level with their opponents near to foot of the table.
Supporters Man of the Match – Josh Skuse (sponsored by Aquatics at Home Ltd). Good saves, clearing punches and clean handling, excellent especially for somebody who normally plays at centre-half.
