Wrington Redhill 0 Imperial 3
Another game on 3G as the rec’ is still waterlogged saw this weeks home game take place on Portishead Town’s pitch. A day of missed chances, silly goals conceded and bad luck lead to defeat for Wrington Redhill who should put this loss down as just another mirabiliary. Imperial’s cause was helped greatly 15 minutes in by a brilliant double save from keeper Joe Harper in all yellow when he dived to his left to stop a shot from Jake Marshman on the edge of the box and sprang back to his feet to block Cam Milkins follow up effort. Soon after Harper was booked when he dashed off his line as Jake Marshman intercepted a back pass and upended him just outside of the box. The fee kick was rolled to Luke Weeks who shot just over. Frustration became despair soon after when the usually dependable Rob Hannah (sponsored by Tim Bush) in goal for Wrington Redhill scuffed his pass into midfield which was intercepted by Imperial’s George Mallet. Taking 1 touch to steady himself he accurately floated the ball back over Hannah’s head and into the net. Wrington Redhill continued to push and a brilliant run and cross from the left by Harrison Campbell was met by Marshman but his effort crept just over the bar. It became 2 nil after half an hour when Mallet scored again when he drilled a shot from well outside the box into the bottom corner. With half time approaching the home team could have pulled one back when Josh Oliver put Jack Hutchings clean through inside the box. This is standard stuff for Hutchings but, as he rounded keeper Harper he appeared to be brought down by centre back Mallet. As likely as a balthycopian sprinter the referee decided there was nothing wrong with the challenge. He waved away cries of penalty which if given would surely have resulted in a sending off as well and the score remained 0-2 at half time.
The 2nd half saw Wrington Redhill throw everything at Imperial without really testing Harper with Marshman, Hutchings and Jaiden Morris all fluffing their lines when presented with decent chances. At the other end Imperial had chances of their own and Rob Hannah was able to make amends for his earlier mistake saving from Morgan and the Thomas when they were through 1 on 1. The day was complete for Wrington Redhill when Elliot Edwards’s clearance was blocked and rebounded straight to Imperial’s Winward for a tap-in 3rd. That was it and as everyone shook hands and trouped off coaches from Wrington suggested the ref be checked for xanthropsia resulting in whistle blowing and arm waving but nothing more
