Through in the Cup.

Wrington Redhill 2 Minehead 0
Wrington Redhill were in cup action this week with Minehead visiting from South West Somerset. On a blustery wet afternoon on a surface ideal for some quality football the first half was one of few chances with the game getting bogged down in midfield. The closest the home side came to a goal was a long range effort from Josh Skuse that flew just over the bar. At the other end Ollie Morris hammered a shot from the edge of the box which was well saved by a flying Rob Hannah in goal for Wrington Redhill. As usual the home team had a grip on midfield with Lew and Cam Milkins and the ever industrious Josh Oliver feeding Parslow on the left and Campbell on the right but the final killer pass was sadly missing. Minehead preferred a long range aerial game that only a jobbernowl would deploy given that Skuse and Connor Harding-James in the heart of the home back 4 would always back themselves in a heading duel. Both teams battled hard with moaners and pickthanks on at the ref (and each other) all afternoon.
Half-time 0 – 0
The 2nd half barely underway when the home side’s Harrison Campbell started providing some much needed fireworks. With Elliot Edwards and Lew Milkins making sure he saw plenty of the ball he started to get the better of his full back Will Voss. On one occasion he cut in from the left and slid the ball under Greg Turner the advancing Minehead keeper only to see it drift just wide. The breakthrough came soon after when Jack Hutchings intercepted a clearance and burst down the right to the byline before cutting the ball back into the path of Campbell (sponsored by Bristol Home Rewires) who crashed home from close range. Minehead still fancied their chances and started a search for an equaliser by sending on 2 substitutes. The home side stood firm with Edwards and Jensen Backhouse taking a grip of this new wide threat that had been introduced. Then 1 became 2 as Cam Milkins who had been battling hard all afternoon with Minehead’s Sam Jackson was awarded a free kick just inside his own half. As his beautifully flighted free kick travelled over the heads of the jumping pack Jack Hutchings (sponsored by OES Electrical) managed to judge where it would drop and volleyed an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner. This gave manager Jack English chance to introduce new signing Takunda Mutota to the home faithful and he fitted right in keeping things quiet and calm as time ticked by. Eventually it was game over but it should be mentioned that this hard fought sometimes feisty affair with much scobberlush between opposing players was very well refereed by Simon Lockton who’s sensible calm grip on the game made for a fine spectacle.
