Wrington Redhill 0 Combe St Nicholas 1
Wrington Redhill must consider themselves very unlucky to have lost this hard fought affair. On a firm pitch with a stiff breeze the quality of football served up was a credit to both teams. Wrington Redhill were 1st to have a meaningful attempt when Luke Weeks fed the ball through to Jack Hutchings but his shot was comfortably saved by Scott Wells-Burr in goal for the visitors. Combe St Nicholas thought they were about to take the lead but Lewis Waldy’s close range snap shot was brilliantly pushed onto the post by Rob Hannah for Dan Berry to clear. Ollie Hapgood was having a busy afternoon at right-back as the grandiloquent visitors winger Lewis saw lots of the ball and was always ready to run at him. Hapgood was however always up to the task. Wrington Redhill’s thought they’d gone in front when bustling centre forward Jaiden Morris rode tackles from Berry and Price before rifling a shot past Wells-Burr. Sadly as Morris was receiving treatment for the shoulder he’d dislocated in this move, the referee was persuaded to speak to the visitors linesman who said that Morris had handled the ball and the goal was ruled out. The optimaths in the home support realised that to protest was a waste of their time .Half-time came with the home team looking the more likely to score but it was 0 – 0. at the break
With the injury to Morris manager Jack English was forced to shuffle the pack but to good affect with substitute Jensen Backhouse linking well with Cam and Lew Milkins. Through balls from Harding-James and Skuse were Wrington Redhill’s biggest threat but Marshman, Hutchings and Weeks were well marshalled by the visitors back line. Hearts at the Rec’ were broken when a series of tackles and ricochets saw the ball fall to the visitors Joe Charles whose shot crept in off the post. The lineman’s flag was up but this time the ref would not be swayed and the goal stood. A Hutchings free kick flew over the bar and Marshman just fails to reach a Weeks cross but Combe St Nicholas took the points. Whist there was nothing contumacious about anything the home side did they had somehow amassed 5 bookings during the game
