Wrington Redhill 2 Peasedown Miners Welfare 1

Wrington Redhill 2 Peasedown Miners Welfare 1

Another new experience for the Wrington Redhill lads as Peasedown visited the Rec’ for the 1st time in many years. Soon after the game got underway Jack Hutchings hit the bar for the home team with a long range effort but things were generally pretty even. It was 10 minutes in when Dan Berry, up from the back, set himself and hit a rasping drive which cannoned down off the bar and hit Peasedown’s diving keeper Chis Allaco on the back and rolled into the net. Peasedown almost equalised when Charlie McLachlan nicked a through ball past the advancing keeper Rob Hannah but as the ball headed for the open goal Josh Skuse somehow managed to race back and scoop it off the line. Soon after Peasedown’s Rico Sobers crossed from the left and the ball eventually fell to Baressi who looked like he must score but Hannah somehow managed to smother the shot.

Half time 1 nil.

Right at the start of the 2nd half a fracas was prevented when Wrington Redhill manager Scott Campbell stepped in to calm things down as players from both sides got involved in some pushing and shoving after Baressi had squared up to Harrison Campbell. Peasedown were having slightly the better of things in the 2nd half until Jake Marshman snuck in, Chameleon like, to steal the ball off Peasedown’s Bert Haines who had no choice but to bring him down just outside the box. Up stepped Jack Hutchings to curl the free kick past Allaco and into the top corner for a 2 nil lead. Peasedown were however playing well, moving the ball quickly and fancied their chances of getting something from the game. Those chanced were improved with 15 minutes to go as the home team were reduced to 10 when Jack English was sent off for a 2nd yellow card. They dug in but, just when they were looking impenetrable, their lead was reduced to 1 as a corner from the right was thumped home by Charlie McLachlan. It was a rear guard action for the last period with Harding James, Skuse and Berry dominating to earn them a 3rd win in a row.
