Unbeaten run comes to an end

Wrington Redhill 3 Congresbury 6

Much was expected from both sides when these to in-form teams met at Wrington. Congresbury are surely champions elect and Wrington Redhill were on a 14 game unbeaten run. The game started with both teams on the front foot, probing and looking for an early breakthrough. It was Congresbury who took the lead after 10 minutes when Eddie Smith pounced on a loose ball on the right and crossed for Jordan Sole to head home past Rob Hannah. The home team could have equalised soon after when Jake Marshman split the Congresbury defence with a through ball to Luke Weeks but his snap shot flew just over the bar. Soon after Congresbury were under pressure again when Harrison Campbell skinned his full back and cut in but his shot from 12 yards was well saved by Butchers in goal for Congresbury.
Half time 0-1
Soon after the start of the 2nd half the scores were level when Marshman got the better of his marker and got a shot away which was saved by Butchers but th ball fell to Jack Hutchings who hooked it home. Wrington Redhill were still patting themselves on the back when Congresbury went back in front as a long throw from the left was helped on to Dan Burgan to head home at the far post. The visitors went 3-1 up soon after when an Adam Buckley shot was saved by Hannah and the rebound fell to Smith who hammered it home. This Wrington Redhill team have earned themselves a reputation that, they don’t just sit back and feel sorry for themselves like a man suffering from menopause, they just crack on and try to put things right. Some creative work in midfield by Cam and Lew Milkins led to a cross to Dan Berry who knocked it down to Jack Hutchings to score from close range. They drew level with 20 minutes remaining when Weeks latched onto a through ball to slide his low shot past Butchers. Neither of these teams were going to be happy with a point and it was Congresbury who pulled away as the game entered the final quarter. Jordan Sole scored 2 fabulous goals with powerful headers from corners as he out jumped everyone. Right at the end  Robbie Miller took advantage as the Wrington Redhill defence were concentrating on Sole from a corner he snuck around the back to add a 6th. All the while Congresbury had shored up their back line as though their goal had a gunwale cover. Whilst Congresbury finished much the better team a 3-6 score line was harsh as this had been a close and very entertaining game
