Through in the Cup after penalties

Chew Magna 2 Wrington Redhill 2 ( Penalties 3-4)

After a few weeks with no game due to a waterlogged pitch Wrington Redhill were off the pace certainly for the first half of this game. Maybe there were less inamoratas than usual at the game to inspire them this week but they didn’t start well at all. Chew Magna were dominating possession and deservedly took the lead when Lodge skinned Coady Parslow on the left and crossed for Ben Lewis to head home past Rob Hannah in goal for the visitors. Chew Magna were in charge for most of the 1st half as Wrington Redhill’s Cam and Lew Milkins and Jake Marshman were unable to boss the midfield as they so often do. The visitors best chance fell to Cody Parslow when a Hutchings cross found him at the far post but his shot was well saved by goalkeeper Pickford. A Marshman drive was just wide, Cody Parslow made some mazy runs down the right and Campbell and Weeks were testing their respective full backs but generally the half belonged to Chew Magna with visiting centre backs Skuse and Elliot overworked to keep the score down to 1 at half time.
We don’t know what manager Jack English said to his team at half time but Wrington Redhill flew out of the blocks in the 2nd half creating early chances. Parslow continued his probing runs down the right and Holmes and Campbell were combining well on the left but Chew Magna stood firm with some robust defending. Jack English realised that he had to make a change, avoid a zugzwang and get a grip on this game. He replaced Jake Marshman, who had been on the wrong end of the robust defending, and Weeks for Jaiden Morris and Max Holder. This paid off almost immediately when Holder’s close control and clever turn allowed him to set Morris free down the right. He swept a low cross perfectly into the path of Harrison Campbell (sponsored by Bristol Home Rewires) who crashed the equaliser home. Not long after Chew Magna were back in front with a cracking goal straight out of the 1970’s. Keeper Pickford launched an enormous kick downfield which was contested but eventually fell to Nial Hodge who danced through a couple of tackles before slotting it beautifully into the bottom corner of the net. With time running out Wrington Redhill attacked frantically but it was the cool head of Morris who came up with the goods. As they threw everything forward scrapping for every ball it fell to him and he calmly controlled it and stroked it into the top corner giving Pickford no chance.
Game over, and on to penalties.
The hero of the penalty shoot out was our keeper Rob Hannah (sponsored by Tim Bush) with 2 outstanding saves and a calmly taken penalty of his own to allow Wrington Redhill to sneak through 4-3 on pens

It was a good job no extra spot kicks were needed as the light was fading fast and Noctivigants would have been needed for any further action.
