Wrington Redhill 2 Glastonbury 1
In one of only a handful of games played in the County League this week Wrington Redhill just came out on top. Glastonbury started brightly and both Wake and Bond hit screaming shots just off target before the home team clicked into gear. Once Jake Marshman, Cam Milkins and Jack English blew the Christmas limescale out of their pipes and got their usual grip on midfield things started to improve and they carried more of a threat. They got their reward after a passing move involving Harrison Campbell and Hutchings fed Marshman who beat keeper Alfie Peacock from close range. Glastonbury were still looking good and Cruz Clark almost equalised after he played a one two with Mullins but shot just wide from an acute angle. As the 1st period ended Cambell had his usual warning from the ref for having too much to say but this time he kept the flippedy gibbet to a minimum and avoided a booking.
Half time 1 – nil
It was all Glastonbury for the 1st ten minutes of the 2nd half but great defending by Skuse and Harding-James at the heart of the home defence limited the visitors to long range and half chances. Wrington Redhill was went further ahead when Jack Hutchings skillfully controlled a pass from Weeks and nipped past defender Martin who stuck out a leg and sent him sprawling. A confident Hutchings got to his feet to blast the penalty past Peacock. The following 20 minutes or so saw chances at both ends. Weeks rolled a clever pass to Hutchings who’s shot ballooned over and soon after Hutchings shot weakly when a pass to Cam Milkins would have been the better option. Still Glastonbury poured forward attack down both flanks but full backs Berry and Backhouse were, as always, solid as a rock. With 15 minutes remain a Marshman free kick was headed clear to Hutchings and his volley from outside the box was heading for the top corner until Peacock pulled off the save of the day to tip it over. Soon after Glastonbury pulled one back when Bond was put clean through, held off the pursuing Skuse with his powerful Calllipygian before beating Rob Hannah with an angled shot from inside the box. This changed the whole game and in the last 10 minutes Glastonbury threw everything forward in search of an equaliser. A free kick from just outside the box flew off the wall and the resulting corner caused mayhem with almost everybody in the box jumping for the ball and soon after referee Chris Ham blew his whistle to bring the curtains down on another great day at the rec’ for Scott Campbell’s men.
Supporters Man of the Match- Jack Hutchings, won the penalty, scored it and was ‘at it’ all game.
