Facing into a howling gale for the 1st half Wrington Redhill knew they were in for a battle and battle they did. Connor Harding-James and Josh Skuse in the heart on the defence spent much of the half heading and volleying clearances whilst everyone else was trying to keep the ball with short sharp passes on the floor and out of the wind. After 20 minutes of scrappy football Harrison Campbell collected the ball on the half way line and ran at Saltford’s Paul Gardiner, skinned him and crossed to the far post where Jake Weeks bundled it over the line. More frantic football followed with Saltford’s Andy Jones and Harvey Darlow both had long range efforts comfortably saved by Rob Hannah and a series of corners were dealt with without too much bother. I became 2 just before half time when a corner from the right side as drilled in by Cam Milkins to be met by the head of the stooping Harding-James.
To their credit this young Saltford side never gave up and the 2nd half started with them seeing plenty of the ball but without creating anything much. The inevitable 3rd came when the ball ran free close to the Salford goal and Luke Weeks pounced on in and smashed it in past keeper Murphy whilst at the same time crashing into the post causing himself a right gasper as he struggled for breath. Soon after Jack Hutchings made it 4 collecting his present from Melchior as defender Fred Terry dallied on the ball he robbed it and ran 20 yards before rifling it under Murphy.
Hutchings was also involved in the 5h as he continued to torture the overworked defence cutting in from the left before laying the ball into the path of Cam Milkins to smash home. Much of the visitors dominance was thanks to the tireless effort in midfield by Cam and Lew Milkins and Jake Marshman . The game was rounded off nicely when Hutchings pounced on a loose ball on the edge of the box and hit it firmly under replacement keeper Jordan Kadioglu. Off we go for Christmas with 3 points in the hope that Balthazar’s gift to us is 3 points at Minehead on Jan 4th.
