Wrington Redhill 5 Westfield 0
Wrington Redhill’s final home game against Westfield was expected to be a close run thing, they are just outside of the top three and Westfield are close behind them. It was not, there was almost a quincunx between the 2 sides . Right from the start the home team were on the front foot with Jack Hutchings testing Barter, in goal for Westfield, in the very first minute. The opening goal came in only the 3rd minute when Hutchings was bundled over by Ollie Cox as he ran at the Westfield back line. He got to his feet and shot low through the defensive wall past the unsighted keeper. Westfield huffed and puffed but never really threatened the home defence. The majority of home keeper Rob Hannah’s work was rushing out of his area to clear long through balls. The 2nd goal came midway through the half when Luke Weeks cleverly worked his way down the right before sliding the ball to Jake Marshman who’s smart finish sent Bartman the wrong way. The 3rd went in and Westfield heads went down soon after when a Cam Milkins corner was eventually cleared to Luke Weeks on the edge of the box and his and his shot was deflected past Barter.
Half time 3 – nil
Credit must go to Westfield who kept going and made the 2nd half competitive but the Wrington Redhill’s back 4 of Parslow, Skuse, Berry and Holmes were rock solid and well supported by Cam and Lew Milkins from midfield. Wrington Redhill were glad to welcome back skipper Connor Harding-James from his elongated honeymoon.,He came on for Cody Parslow and the dichotomy in their playing styles is amazing although both are effective. Westfield’s Jack Peters had a fine game in the heart of the visitors defence and was so unlucky to be credited with assists for both of the home teams 2nd half goals! After Harrison Campbell’s mesmerising run and cross from the left Peters was forced to head clear but he slightly miss timed his header and it looped over to Marshman who hooked it in past Barter. Soon after his clearing header feel to Weeks who volleyed home from the edge of the box for a richly deserved 5-0 scoreline! This completely cancels any chance Westfield had of a return to the top division whilst. Their manager said he was surprised by their capitulation which was a brave statement from hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia sufferer like him!
