Honourable draw at Nailsea & Tickenham

Nailsea & Tickenham res 0 Wrington Redhill 0

This was a surprising result when you consider that both teams were going flat out for a win. The visitors especially needed the 3 points that would have lifted them back into a promotion spot. Generally , without digging a fosse around the penalty areas, defences were in charge with Wrington Redhill’s Berry, Skuse and Holmes comfortably coping. Meanwhile at right back Jensen Backhouse was involved in a monumental ‘battle of the speed merchants’ with Nailsea and Tickenham’s Jayden Neale and just about came out on top. The home team back 4 well led by Harry Summerhill kept the usually lively Wrington Redhill frontline of Hutchings, Weeks and Campbell very quiet. As half time approached the home team threatened when Jack Godfrey found himself through on goal but delayed his shot and was subsequently closed down and blocked by advancing goalkeeper Rob Hannah.
At half-time hot drinks were kindly provided by our friends at Nailsea & Tickenham to the Wrington massive who’d set up their own inglenook in the seating area as the storm clouds gathered to the west.
Soon after the restart Nailsea & Tickenham almost went ahead when Brandon Hurst unleashed a shot from the edge of he box. With Hannah at full stretch it crashed against the bar and bounced down and hit Hannah on the back before deflecting just wide. As the teams tired spaces opened and Wrington Redhill’s tireless trio of Cam & Lew Milkins along with Jake Marshman began to pile pressure on the home defence. A series of corners and free kicks followed but they were comfortably dealt with by a back line including experienced goalkeeper Jason Mellor. The deadline was almost broken right on time when Hannah raced of his line and upended Hutst on the edge of the box. After much discussion about why Nailsea & Tickenham didn’t get a penalty for a foul outside of the box Miles Hardidge stepped up and fired his free kick over the bar.
The game ended at nil – nil so the Pantechnicon that is Wrington Redhill has been slowed down in the last few games but there is still much to play for starting with a home game v Westfield on Saturday 26th April.
