Due to the Rec still suffering from all the recent bad weather this fixture was played at Worle School’s 4G pitch on Wednesday last in an effort to catch up on the huge fixture backlog.

As midweek games always cause problems with availability of players at our level manager Grahame Cheeseman had wisely added to the squad and was able to bring in Simon Hewish at right back and Mason Gardener in central midfield and both slotted in very well with fine contributions in the game.

As Stockwood were one place ahead in the league this was a chance for the home side to leap frog them with a victory in this game. Wrington got off to a flying start taking the lead in the third minute. Good approach play saw Callum Vickery threading the ball to Leigh White sprinting into the penalty area and slotting the ball past keeper Matt Lewis. Although taking this early lead not playing regularly recently stifled any free flowing football with passes going astray but no one could criticise the all round effort of the team throughout.

A few other opportunities came along with a Mike Rowcliffe header just over the bar and an Ollie Clements free kick comfortably collected by the visitors’ goalkeeper. For Stockwood a free kick by Tom Francis was cleared over the bar by Rowcliffe and Hewish and Matt Hill combined to thwart a good chance from Esmael Muhamed who was very lively in the first half.

Wrington Redhill scored again on 35 minutes when Vickery exchanged passes with Will Perry and then feeding Jake Horton who deftly lobbed the advancing ‘keeper Lewis to take an interval lead of 2-0.

The second period started brightly with Vickery’s shot parried away for a corner and Horton firing over the cross bar. Stockwood continued to bring the game to the home side with a header from a corner cleared and shortly after Jack Cox shooting high.

Wrington put the game safe by adding a third goal on 65 minutes with Ollie Clements finishing in style following excellent interplay between Vickery and Horton for a well earned 3-0 victory. Wrington Redhill were able to use all three substitutes of Joe Moore, Rory Thomas and Sam Johnson who all helped to see the game out.
In the closing stages Stockwood’s Jake Cox was shown a red card for a wild tackle on Clements but by then the 3 points were already secured.

The man of the match was awarded to Simon Hewish for an accomplished debut in the defensive quartet.
